Latitude's Tuolumne Meadows is an unoffical partner of Park(ing) Day an international event in which public parking spaces are converted into public parks for a day. This is Latitude's 3rd Park(ing) Day installation.

Tuolumne Meadows is a performance/installation in LexPark parking space (#1301) created by Latitude artists in collaboration with Lexington artist John Lackey and coalition of of local writers and performing artists. In this piece John plays the (fictional) rambling 19th century painter/naturalist Krystal McKusick.

In this performance you will witness Krystal (John) painting a scene of Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows (a Diorama in our case) in the guise of a 19th century naturalist/painter/adventurer. The Diorama Krystal is to paint is based on the perspective common to those who have painted and photographed this vista for many generations and it was constructed by Latitude artists.
From John Muir and Ansel Adams to Jack Kerouak, Yosemite and Tuloumne Meadows in particular has served as a cultural marker and local point of departure for a variety of artists, writers and naturalists/adventurers who often indulged in Romantic Era inspired literary and visual dalliances. This is just as true today as the meadow continues to host swarms of "Plein Air" painters, writers, climbers and unruly bears.
